You'd be able to get damn close...1280 x 1024 is nothing.

Here, try this on for size:

    -Gigabyte motherboard
    -e8400 cpu
    -G Skill ram
    -Lite-on DVD burner
    -Corsair 620 psu
    -8800GTX vid card
    -Creative X-fi soundcard
    -CM Stacker case
    -Seagate 500GB HDD

Total= $1505 + shipping to your neck o the woods
The platform core (board, chip, RAM) is exactly what I just ordered for myself (and I already have that PSU, DVD burner and soundcard).

For best results, I'd recommend XP Pro x64 as the OS and I assume you can handle that yourself (nudge, nudge, wink, wink...).

Good, now what game did you want to play?? Obviously you can not max out Crysis, even COD4 could be a stretch depending on what framerates you were looking to get...

And about the parts above...they're great parts and all, but the 8800GTX does not typically give enough of a performance increase over the newer 512mb G92 GTS. The difference was major with the older GTS (320mb and 640mb G80) Sure the GTX is slightly better than the 512mb GTS, but you can shave off $100 from the pricetag if need be. If money is not a huge issue, then sure get the GTX.

Clocker that motherboard seems to have decent 7.1 audio on-board. If he is just gaming I would not recommend him a $140 sound card.
Is that one of those fore-arm-sized video cards? I suppose it will not fit in a MidATX case eh? Why not go cheaper on the case? Perhaps..this?

And who are you again?? Watch the nastiness bub no need for that here maybe YOU should slink back to the Lounge moron. Also I doubt VERY MUCH if you ever met Frank you would say something like that to his face so be tough with your keyboard muscles tough guy, believe me he could prob make you piss your pants

OK so this guy is a very good friend of mine guys, we worked together for some time and he is a great dude. he had asked me for advice on this and I recommended the evga 8800gt card I thought that would be enough. Clocker thanks for the help it's much appreciated. 2 things will prob happen when the specs are completed I will either build this for him or coach him on how to do it himself over the phone. I was trying to keep the budget under $1000 and this is my first choice of parts without getting too crazy. I was under the impression that it wasn't worth it to get the superclocked versions of the 8800gt because you could overclock it yourself and save some dough, am I wrong bro? Also what about getting 2 8800 gt's and going SLI that would help too no?

Also I wasn't sure about the E8400 chip because of the heat issues I have been having and reading about Clocker but if these things turn out to be no biggie than that would be a better chip

I was just following orders guys.
He asked for a "great gaming machine" and specified a budget of $1500.
Although the vid card does not represent the best price/performance ratio, it does outplay it's less expensive brethren.

As for the sound card...it is common for gaming PCs to have a sound card to relieve the CPU from doing any sound processing.

Yeah maybe I overreacted but Frankie is my boy and I don't like anyone picking on the pneubs especially the slimy Lounge crowd

Huge waste of money when he is playing at 1280x1024. He would see absolutely no benefit of SLI/Crossfire, only the hassles of driver issues and program incompatability.
