View Full Version : New Pop-up Format (message Windows)

The last couple of weeks I've been coming home to find these annoying message windows advertising stocks and other seedy opportunities on my desktop. I don't think they are html-type windows, more like error messages that windows would come up with. You click OK to get rid of them. PopUpKiller doesn't detect them, AdAware isn't finding anything on my hard drive. I run Kazaa Lite constantly, also Weather Bug. What the f--- are these and how do I stop them from showing up?

Thanks,

Mr. Too Busy to Dissect the Internet

I have also noticed this the last week or so but didn't think it had anything to do with kazaa lite. They are not windows dialogues but they are just grey boxes of text adverts (get rich quick etc.). No response from Spybot either. Says something about a demo of playzone or something?

This (http://www.theeldergeek.com/messenger_removal.htm) will tell you all you need to know.

Edited to add:

Actually, this site (http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup/) may be easier to read/understand/follow.

Adware has infected your computer.
Edit the registry manually or use software to remove them.

MagicNakor seems to have the answer. I don't know why the messaenger service got activated on my computer recently. Thanks!

downloads section in misc.

net stop messenger

download that and put the batch file inside your startup folder.

Not that i don't trust you or anything, but I for one avoid puttin anything in on my puter that will start at startup (specially batch files) as ya never know what they may contain (i know how to look at them in notepad, but a n00b wouldn't)..

And, IMO, it's easier to just goto the services and disable it, requires no restart or anything, as your batch file does

That will do the trick!
